Two weeks ago, three medical students, Aswin Rajeev, Sreekanth Syamkumar and Abontika Roy reached out to us seeking support for a cause they believed required urgent attention. This is what they had to say :
“Just a few days before the initiation of lockdown, while the colleges and schools were in the process of being shut down, the 3 of us had noticed a migrant laborer with his family, all of them had unkempt clothes wrapped around their faces. All his children had these dusty pieces of cloth covering their mouths and noses. We could see that they were trying their best to protect themselves from the disease, but we knew it wasn’t sufficient. It made us realise that as we were feeling relatively safe wearing our N95 masks, there were so many people out there who can’t afford this expensive yet necessary item to protect themselves and their loved ones. We were deeply moved by this sight and wanted to do something about it. The least we could do was to purchase a few surgical masks for them, and they seemed so grateful for such a small gesture.
We weren’t satisfied because we knew that even those simple surgical masks aren’t enough to give them adequate protection. Our thoughts also turned to the elderly in old age homes and geriatric wards and the little children in orphanages.
Buying the surgical masks for that family was just a short term fix for our conscience. Thousands of people are in need of them. So we decided to setup an online fundraiser and use it finance the purchase of the masks!
We are determined to make positive changes and we really look forward to working with 360 Degree NGO.”
We at 360 Degree are happy to initiate this campaign which not only gives back to the society, but in the process, is also creating three young changemakers.
